I’m happy to report that I’ve visited Australia and lived to tell the tale. Seems like my trip was insulated from the countless ever-present dangers Australia has on hand to greet their guests. I was there in the winter though, so maybe the worst of it was hibernating. Either way, after seeing what’s typically on-hand every day for Australians, I count myself fortunate.
It’s a long flight. Your body doesn’t know whether it’s coming or going by the time you land, or have any concept of day or night. You’re not just out of your element; you’re out of your depth. And you need your wits about you. The Land Down Under isn’t all cuddly wallabies and white sandy beaches; it might just be the biggest test of your life. It’s out to get you.
