Most store-bought granola is loaded with sugar and other unhealthy ingredients, whereas when you make it at home, you can control what goes into it and ensure that you are making yourself a truly healthy treat! This recipe yields 12-14 servings, so share it with friends, bring it for co-workers, or have friends over for Sunday brunch. Or don’t share it because it’s so addicting you may just want it all for yourself. I know from experience… I’m eating it as I type this…

Healthy Homemade Granola

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups toasted whole grain cereal – try Nature’s Path Multibran Flakes
  • 3 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
  • 1 cup sliced almonds
  • 3 TBSP honey
  • 3 TBSP maple syrup
  • 3 TBSP agave nectar
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil

 

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 275 degrees
  • Mix whole grain cereal, oats, nuts, and dates
  • Bring honey, maple, agave and oil just to boil in small saucepan
  • Drizzle over cereal mixture and toss to coat evenly
  • Spread mixture onto large rimmed baking sheets
  • Bake until golden brown and dry, stirring every 15 minutes (about 1 hour and 30 minutes total)
  • Cool granola completely on pan, stirring occasionally to prevent clumping

Note: Granola will be good for 2 weeks — just make sure to store airtight at room temperature.
